Kimsooja and Robert Morgan studio visit

Peformance/video/installation artist Kimsooja and critic Robert Morgan came to my studio the other day. I had seen Kimsooja's Needle Woman in NYC before, and it was presented along with other works of hers at the University Museum. The two presented a conversation (artist talk) in the museum the night of the opening.

While it has been brought up that issues in her work are problematic (in regards to class and race), I find her work to be very captivating. Certainly problematic issues are not a reason to write off an artist's work as unworthy, especially since the work of most artists, if not all, poses problematic situations. One can argue the act of making art is problematic....so is it ever a good enough reason to stop making and looking? Especially interesting, since she is a woman of color, if that gives her more room to play with ideas of class, race and nationality, and also if that means she has a harder time getting away with it. Nevertheless, there is an undeniable energy that she creates in her work.

I found their visit to my studio to be a very valuable experience.

Robert Morgan responded very intensely about the following work of mine- a work that I usually don't present. Here's to rediscoveries....

Smith College Museum- Gemini Show

Gemini is a well-known print studio in L.A. which got its start printing big names like Oldenburg, Rauschenberg, Stella, etc in the 70s. They were influential in merging the east coast and west coast art worlds. Below are some of my favorite Rauschenberg editions from the show, yes...editions.
